Spring has finally sprung here in our wonderful state of Texas, the days have gotten longer, the weather is turning a little warmer, birds are singing, flowers are blooming, and trees are bearing fruit.

Spring in Texas is the best time of year, the days are warm, but the extreme summer heat is still a few months away, the land is bursting with life, bluebonnets are in full bloom and trees are all green. Simply put this is perfect weather to go out and have some good old-fashioned Texas Fun!

Go Sit in a Field of Flowers

The official flower of the state of Texas the Bluebonnet is overtaking fields and highways all over the state, so why not go out and take a few selfies in a field of blue with your family?

  • – To wear insect repellant.
  • – Watch where you are going as there could be ants, or snakes lurking in the fields.
  • – If you have known allergies, take precautions, carry antihistamines or epi pens with you.

Visit an Orchard and Pick Your Own Fruits

During March strawberries are in season, find a local grower and go pick your fill. Other fruits like peaches will be ready for picking in May, but, start looking for the best peach orchards now so you can reserve a spot for when they are ripe.

  • – If you need to climb a ladder to pick the fruit always have someone with you hold the ladder for support.
  • – Wear sunscreen designed to block both UVA and UVB rays, the fairer your skin the higher the SPF protection should be, but regardless of your skin tone, you should wear a sunscreen with an SPF 15.
  • – Take a refillable PBA-free water bottle, so you won’t become dehydrated.

Go Sleep Under the Stars!

Spring in Texas is a great time for families to go camping, the weather is great, and the scenery is breathtaking, you can take advantage of the many parks that offer camping spaces, most of these provide the basic amenities so you won’t have to tough it out so much.

  • – Buckle up and make sure any children are in age-appropriate safety seats.
  • – Never drink and drive.

  • – Stop frequently to stretch your legs, walk around a little to get the circulation going.
  • – Schedule breaks every 100 miles or 2-hours, it’s a good policy to rotate drivers every few hours.
  • – Don’t drive if you are feeling drowsy or are extremely tired.
