Lufkin CHI ER Archives - Best Texas ER Open 24/7, No Lines - Altus Emergency

Employee Spotlight Lauren Frazier, Regional Director of QI/Risk

Employee Spotlight Lauren Frazier, Regional Director of QI/Risk

Tradition is beautiful, especially when it’s about uplifting incredible people from our communities that truly deserve it.  In honor of the wonderful tradition that we have established at Altus, today we are honored to take the time to spotlight Lauren Frazier, the Regional Director of QI/Risk and Project Management for Altus Emergency Centers, and Altus Lumberton Hospital.  If you are ever in an emergency at any of our Altus facilities and enjoy a quality experience, you can thank our wonderful staff including Lauren.  Today we are doing an employee spotlight on Lauren Frazier as we are proud to have her as one of the stars of Team Altus.

In an emergency, not only does every second matter, every detail matters. A troubling moment can be agonizing or an incredible relief depending on how the experience is for the patient.  During the current COVID-19 pandemic, everything has been particularly trying to everyone.  During these challenging times, we are ever so grateful to have super troopers on board as we are always looking for the best experience for our patients.  Among our unsung healthcare heroes, Lauren has a good deal to do with the incredible quality within our Altus Emergency and Altus Lumberton Hospital healthcare centers.

Read more to get to know about the Employee Spotlight: Lauren Frazier.

Who is Lauren Frazier?

lauren-frazier-MBA-Studies

Lauren began at Altus through the Fellowship Program under the mentorship of Kevin Herrington, President of Altus Emergency Centers and Altus Lumberton Hospital.

Since then, Mrs. Frazier has been instrumental in the development of the high-quality emergency room experience.   She continues to works with staff and patients to assure that they always receive the very best quality in healthcare.

A Hometown Girl with International Flair

Lauren Frazier, the director of quality improvement, risk, and EOC, studied health sciences and minored in corporate communication and public relations, also obtaining a concentration in Biochemistry at Baylor University.  An adventurous spirit, Lauren has also been involved in international studies and practice in order to expand her perspectives.

I received my MBA with a specialization in Healthcare Administration at Lamar University. My early days were very focused on the clinical side with countless hours in labs and patient care and experience. I have completed countless days of hands-on-experience throughout my studies and career, including spending time in Costa Rica and Panama solely to help administer patient care and  assess the disparity and continuum of care.

The Fellowship Program

“During this time, I was able to lead significant efforts and gain thorough experience in all management departments including Communications and Marketing, Executive Office, Finance, Operations, Private Equity, Billing and Management, and other Regional Services associated with Altus Health. There is no training period for the rigorous program.”

It has been a long road to this point in my career. However, it is one that has been most rewarding.

Greatly respected by all, president Kevin Herrington expressed about her as, Lauren has been a stellar employee and has a great ability to observe, analyze and make sound judgment calls.”

Lauren is one of our excellent health care executives that has obtained valuable first-hand experience through the Fellowship Program.

An Interview with our Employee Spotlight Lauren Frazier

We enjoyed a lovely chat with Lauren while she shared about her vision, purpose, family, and becoming a new mom. The following are some highlights of our interview with Lauren and her experience of working with Altus for over five years.

Q: “So, please explain, what is your role at Altus?”

A:  Lauren

I handle Quality/Risk, Governance, and oversee Environment of care/Asset maintenance for all locations together with a team. I also manage organizational projects, as assigned by our President.”

Q: “How do you think this makes a difference in patient’s lives?”

A:  Lauren

All my areas of responsibility roll down to patient care, which is the center of all decisions. All decisions have a ripple effect right down to the patient.

Q: “Wow this really sounds impacting in all that it encompasses, could you explain a little more about this?”

A:  Lauren

At Altus, we have a patient centered focus, and we’re willing to make necessary moves in a timely manner to benefit patient experience and care.”

“In healthcare, timing is everything. What everyone sees on the surface is just the tip of the iceberg.”

“Behind the scenes, there are a lot of moving parts and decisions that allow for that patient perspective and experience the public sees and feels when they walk through our front doors at any of our locations. Our facilities have a local atmosphere that our patients appreciate and the personalized service that makes all the difference during their emergencies.

Q: “What is your favorite part about working with Altus?

A:  Lauren

The best part about working for Altus is being a part of a healthcare organization that is able to provide quality healthcare in a comfortable environment for our patients. Our model also offers convenience and increases access to healthcare. Additionally, we have a team dedicated to the organization.”

Q: “What do you do when you are not working at Altus?

A:  Lauren

Outside of working at Altus, I spend time with my family, friends, and  support my husband, who is a local high school band director. I am also a grad member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, where I serve and give back to the community.

Q: “How does it feel to be a new mom?

A:  Lauren

Being a new mom is such a blessing for me. I am honored to be my daughter Ava’s mother. It is one of the most difficult, yet rewarding jobs I’ve ever had.  It is a journey with lots of learning and twists, but it also has lots of love and laughs along the way.”

“I wear quite a few hats, but in the end you ultimately receive what you give.

Thank you, Lauren Frazier for all that you do!

Dunbar Primary Student Wellness Fair

Dunbar Primary Student Wellness Fair in Lufkin Rocks!

At the Science Fair

Nothing is better than experiencing science live! Last Friday, March 9th, 2018, staff from CHI St. Luke’s Health – Memorial enjoyed teaching kids from the Dunbar Primary School in Lufkin, Texas through science!  How did this happen?  Well, it was not one, but two fun stations that were sponsored to teach kids valuable health and prevention tips they can treasure for a lifetime.

What Did The Children Learn?

Station 1

At the Dunbar Primary Student Wellness Fair, Station 1 was a hand washing training station where students learned how to properly wash their hands. The children rubbed a safe liquid on their hands and placed them under a black light. This revealed that on the surface our hands appear clean. However, germs are everywhere. After properly washing the hands for 15 seconds, students returned to the black light to observe their hands were “clean.” This was a demonstration stressing the importance of proper hand washing.

THE CHILDREN LEARNED

If you don’t clean your hands properly, you risk having harmful germs on your hands and spreading them to others!  Learn to wash your hands correctly and frequently to avoid the spread of yucky germs!

Station 2

Now it’s time for Station number two.  At the Dunbar Primary Student Wellness Fair, students practiced staying calm and calling 911 individually on the large keypad board display, without forgetting to press the “Call” button to actually place the call. This is a step that children often forget. Children also have an issue knowing how to get into the phone app to reach the keypad.

After this exercise students learned about several medical instruments, such as the stethoscope and what they are used for and when. By the end of the session, they were able to identify each and know their proper function and use. They easily identified toy versions that would light up or mimic the results of the professional instruments. For example, the toy stethoscope would light up and mimic a heartbeat. Instruments covered were the X-Ray machine, stethoscope, ear thermometer, and syringe.

THE CHILDREN LEARNED

A bunch of cool stuff!  Not only did they learn how to dial 911 but they also learned about various medical instruments.  The super cool kids enjoyed taking X-Rays of their hands and giving us all shots! Ultimately they know the doctor is not scary, and we simply go there to receive treatment to become well.

Seeing is believing! Thank you to all of the wonderful staff from Dunbar Primary Student Wellness Fair for giving us the opportunity to teach children valuable lessons about health and prevention. In the photos are admin Lauren Frazier, a presenter at the science fair, along with two other CHI St Luke’s Health Memorial Emergency Center employees.  Enjoy the photos, we will treasure the amazing memories!

Friendly ER Visit to Another Pumpkin Patch Preschool

Smiles & Cheer at Another Pumpkin Patch Preschool

Our Staff & Health Bear Were Thrilled to Entertain Another Pumpkin Patch Preschool!

Last Friday, March 9th, 2018 was a treat for many adorable preschoolers and their teachers at Another Pumpkin Patch Preschool.  It was a day filled with smiles and lessons learned. The daycare and preschool in Huntington, Texas whose motto is, “Learn and Grow Together” received a special treat!  The staff from CHI St. Luke’s Health Emergency Center and their life size Teddy Bear entertained the children with story time.  It is natural for both adults and little ones to be afraid of a trip to the doctor.  However, in the event of an emergency, it’s important that they learn that a trip to the ER is a good thing.  At CHI St. Luke’s Health Emergency Center, we are here to help take care of their “ouches” and “boo-boo’s” as fast as possible.

Highlights from our Visit to Another Pumpkin Patch Preschool!

Fun Times at Another Pumpkin Patch Preschool: Photo Gallery

Happy children, teddy bears and lots of hugs!  The children learned all about a trip to the ER and each took home a mini version of the CHI Teddy Bear to ease their fears of the ER and hospital. We really enjoyed the kids of Another Pumpkin Patch Preschool and hope they take home their lessons learned.

Highly active in the Lufkin community, CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial ER participated in the Back to School Bonanza by giving out information about health, safety and prevention.  “There was a great turnout we had steady traffic throughout the entire event.” Parents and students from the Lufkin area attended. Pre-registered students were in line since 3 am Saturday morning.

It was great to see so many smiling faces with their families preparing for the new school year. – Lauren Frazier, MBA Lufkin Administrator

Several kids went home feeling safe and sound with their new Eddie Rescue teddy bear.  These mini replicas of the real life Eddie Rescue from CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Emergency Center were given out as gifts during the event.  We hope that they will serve to help remind both parents and children that life is precious.  During a medical emergency, there is no time to waste.  There is an option that involves short wait times versus hours.  At CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial Emergency Center, we are always open, always ready and always fast when caring for your loved ones.  Visit our Facebook or Instagram pages to stay up to date with our Lufkin Community activity participation, safety tips and great photos.

Studies & Formation

lauren-frazier-MBA-Studies

A Hometown Girl with International Flair

Lauren Frazier, the Lufkin Administrator, studied health sciences and minored in corporate communication and public relations, also obtaining a concentration in Biochemistry at Baylor University.

Last summer, she did a Study Abroad MBA program in China which included projects and learning sessions in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong.

The Fellowship Program

After a year in the fellowship program, Lauren is more than ready to tackle the leadership as the Lufkin administrator. The fellowship program was created for post-graduate students to thoroughly develop and begin their career as a well-rounded Healthcare Executive.

Greatly respected by all, president Kevin Herrington announced her new role as Lufkin Administrator with great pride, Lauren has been a stellar employee and has a great ability to observe, analyze and make sound judgment calls.”

Lauren is one of our excellent health care executives that has obtained valuable first-hand experience through the Fellowship Program.

MEET THE LUFKIN ADMINISTRATOR

Get to know this Port Arthur, Texas native.

We enjoyed a lovely chat with Lauren while she shared about her vision, purpose, family, and love of music. The following are some highlights of our interview with Lauren.

Q: “Why did you decide to go into healthcare administration?”

A:  Lauren

“Healthcare Administration is a field where you are able to truly value each person within an organization because you know each person contributes to its success. You must be able to work with everyone from housekeeping to senior level executives. Throughout my studies and career, I have had very high-level and microscopic views of healthcare companies and organizations.”

Q: “What or who has been your biggest influence or your mentor?”

A:  Lauren

“I know most have one mentor. However, I’ve met several who played significant roles in guiding me, largely because I always asked ‘Why’ and ‘How.’  These people were willing to do more than just simply return with a short answer. Throughout my path, I have met many mentors, who have helped shape me and my future. The individuals who have had a truly lasting impression and helped shape me as a professional are Diana Kendall, PhD; Scott Garner; Rosalind Kennerson-Baty, Ph.D.; Dr. Terri Woods; Dr. Peter Isaac; Jeff Dyson and last but certainly not least Kevin Herrington.”

My parents instilled in me at an early age that you do something right or you don’t do it at all. That has driven me all my life.

“All of these people are remarkable and have left lasting impressions.”

Q: “Who is the Lufkin Administrator at Home?”

A:  Lauren

“Born and Raised in Port Arthur, Texas I have a true appreciation for hometown and local love. By day I am a Healthcare Executive and by night I am a loving wife to a High School Band Director, Alex Frazier.”

Affectionately known as a band wife, my path is uncommon but one I wouldn’t trade.

“We have a French bulldog named Luca.  Music is obviously big in our household. I am really creative and enjoy spending time with my family.”
