Visit Lake Jackson Texas the City of Enchantment

It’s no coincidence that Lake Jackson’s nickname is “The City of Enchantment”.  A combination of scenic beauty and unique city planning results in its distinctive personality that many have grown to love.  Whether you live here or are thinking of passing by, this article is dedicated to our beloved Brazoria County town of Lake Jackson Texas, a remarkable place home to a fun-loving and tight-knit community.

Unlike most towns, Lake Jackson Texas was conceived and planned before a single stone was laid.  As a matter of fact, Oak Drive where Altus Emergency Center Lake Jackson is located was the very first street constructed.  Architect Alden B. Dow, the man responsible for the town’s design, is considered a visionary.  Mr. Dow gave clear instructions to the workers to spare as many trees as possible during the construction, thus preserving the natural history and ecosystems of the area while at the same time creating an enchanting city. As a result, thanks to him, Lake Jackson could be regarded as one of the first environmentally conscious cities in the country.

Visit Lake Jackson Texas is brought to you by Altus Emergency Center Lake Jackson, We’re Not Neighbors, We’re Family!

Originally built as a town to house the employees of the Dow Chemical Company back in 1941, today Lake Jackson is home to more than 26,000 people.  This growing community has become an important economic center in the area.

The City of Enchantment has many attractions that provide healthy entertainment to its residents and visitors alike, among them we find:

Sea Center Texas

When you visit Lake Jackson Texas, we encourage you to take a trip to the Sea Center Texas.  This hidden gem is the largest redfish hatchery in the world, it produces some 20 million fingerlings of red drum and spotted trout a year which is then released into the Texas coastal waters. In addition to the aquariums, they have a 24-foot touch display, saltwater marsh displays as well as a freshwater marsh full of wildlife.

Lake Jackson Historical Museum

The Lake Jackson Historical Museum is about a half day treat for you and your family to enjoy during your visit to Lake Jackson Texas.

The most entertaining way to learn about the fantastic history of Lake Jackson, the museum chronicles the history of the area with interactive exhibits and high-tech displays focusing on 4 eras, pre-historic era, the plantation era, the development of its petrochemical industry and finally the construction of modern-day Lake Jackson.

Life-like animatrons of Alden Dow will explain why Lake Jackson’s streets are named “This Way” and “That Way. Visitors can also fly the Windecker Eagle airplane themselves and learn about life during the plantation era from Major Abner Jackson himself.

There are several other exhibits worth enjoying such as the section on the native Karankawa Indians who resided in Lake Jackson area as well as the Texas coastline in the 1600’s.  Last but not least, many people have heard of the Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, but did you know that she grew up in Lake Jackson Texas?  There is a recent exhibit dedicated to this beloved Tejano Pop music singer in the Lake Jackson Historical Museum.

Mammoth Lake Dive Park

Where else can you enjoy an aquatic adventure and spot mammoth remains?  Drop by the Mammoth Lake Dive Park, the former archaeological dig site near Lake Jackson Texas and explore interesting wrecks during your visit. Have a close encounter with the remains of huge Mammoth unearthed in the area while you earn your scuba diver’s certification, the lake has a lot of cool things to explore and the restaurant where the mammoth bones are displayed is fantastic.

A Tight-Knit Community

Lake Jackson Texas is indeed beautiful and full of adventures, but it is also home to a tight-knit community that is concerned with real issues affecting our society, after so many years operating in Lake Jackson, Altus Emergency Center is proud to be another concerned member of the community, and it is because of this that we have forged valuable alliances with both local government agencies like the Lake Jackson Police Association, the Lake Jackson Fire Department, Brazoria Chamber of Commerce, and the Brazoria Independent School District as well as amazing non-profit organizations such as:

Women’s Center of Brazoria County: An organization that provides help to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

Habitat for Humanity: The Habitat for Humanity chapter in Southern Brazoria revitalizes neighborhoods, and builds affordable and sustainable housing, while at the same empowers families through successful homeownership programs.

SPCA: Animals deserve second chances too, SPCA of Brazoria County works tirelessly to find good homes for stray and homeless animals in the community.

The staff of Altus Emergency Center Lake Jackson encourages all Lake Jackson residents and its visitors to explore the beauty of the City of Enchantment and become involved with one or more of the different programs that strive to make our community even better than it already is.
